పోటీ పరీక్షల్లో రీజనింగ్: Directions (దిశ-స్థానం)

‘Directions' అను విషయము రీజనింగ్ విభాగంలో ఒక ముఖ్యమైన అంశము. సాధారణంగా అన్ని పోటీ పరీక్షల్లో ఈ విషయముపై ప్రశ్నలు ఉంటాయి. Civils, Groups, SI/constable, Bank PO's/Clerks, Staff Selection Commission పరీక్షలలో ఈ విషయం ముఖ్య భూమిక పోషిస్తుంది.

గ్రూప్స్‌లో Directions శీర్షిక మీద ఒకటి లేదా రెండు ప్రశ్నలు అడగవచ్చు. Staff Selection Commission(SSC) పరీక్షల్లో రెండు ప్రశ్నలు అడగవచ్చు. Civils (C SAT-2) మరియు Bank పరీక్షల్లో ఈ విషయంపై ప్రశ్నలు నేరుగా (డైరెక్ట్ క్వశ్చన్స్) అడగవచ్చు, లేదా Data Sufficiency అను విషయంలో చేర్పి అడగవచ్చు.

మొత్తంగా చూసుకుంటే ఈ విషయంలో నుండి ఏ పోటీ పరీక్షల్లో అయిన ఒక ప్రశ్న ఖచ్ఛితంగా వస్తుంది. కావున పోటీ పరీక్షలకు సన్నద్ధం అయ్యే అభ్యర్థులు ఈ విషయంలోని అన్ని అంశాలను క్షుణ్ణంగా అధ్యయనం చేయాలి.

Directions (దిశ-స్థానము) విషయములోని వివిధ అంశాలను పరిశీలిద్దాం:

3. ఉదయం సూర్యుని వైపు తిరిగి చూస్తే, చూసే వైపు తూర్పు. వీపు వైపు పడమర, ప్రక్కలకు చేతులు చాచిన కుడివైపు దిక్కు దక్షిణం మరియు ఎడమ వైపు దిక్కు ఉత్తరం.

4. ప్రక్క, ప్రక్క దిక్కులు పరస్పర లంబాలు. వాటి మధ్య కోణము 90 డిగ్రీలు. తూర్పు వైపునకు నిలబడి ఉన్న ఒక మనిషి కుడి వైపునకు 90 డిగ్రీలు(లంబంగా) తిరిగితే కనబడే దిక్కు దక్షిణం. ఒక వేళ ఎడమవైపునకు 90డిగ్రీలు తిరిగి ఉంటే కనబడే దిక్కు ఉత్తరం.

5. తూర్పుకు ఎదురు దిక్కు పడమర. ఉత్తరానికి ఎదురు దిక్కు దక్షిణం. ఎదురెదురు దిక్కులు ఒకే రేఖలో అంత్యములలో ఉంటాయి.

6. తూర్పు వైపునకు నిలబడియున్న ఒక మనిషి 180డిగ్రీలు ఎటువైపుకు తిరిగినా కనబడే దిక్కు పడమర.

7. తూర్పుకు అభిముఖంగా నిలబడిన వ్యక్తి కుడివైపునకు 45డిగ్రీలు తిరిగితే ఎదురుగానున్న మూల ఆగ్నేయం. ఎడమకు 45డిగ్రీలు తిరిగితే ఎదురుగా ఉన్న మూల ఈశాన్యం.

8. సవ్యదిశలో తిరుగుట అంటే వ్యక్తి ఏ దిశలో నున్నప్పటికీ కుడివైపునకు తిరగడం. అపసవ్యదిశలో తిరుగుట అంటే ఎడమ వైపునకు తిరగడం.

Position - స్థానము

ఎత్తు వారి నిలబడిన వ్యక్తుల క్రమము, పెట్టెలో అమర్చిన పుస్తకాల క్రమము, వృత్తాకారంలో నిలబడి ఉన్న వ్యక్తుల క్రమము, వరుసలో నిలబడి ఉన్న వ్యక్తుల క్రమములో నున్న ఒక వ్యక్తి ఎడమ నుంచి లేదా కుడి నుంచి లేదా అభిముఖంగా లేదా ‘n'వ స్థానంలో నున్నదిలపై ప్రశ్నలు ఉంటాయి.

1. ఉత్తరం నుంచి స్థితిజ సమాంతరంగా నడుస్తున్న ఒక వ్యక్తి నీడ కుడి వైపున ఉంటే ఆ సమయం ఏది?

జ. ఉదయం పూట వస్తువు నీడ పడమర వైపు ఉంటుంది. సాయంత్రం అయితే తూర్పు వైపు ఉంటుంది. మధ్యాహ్నం నీడ పరిమాణం చాలా తక్కువగా వస్తువుకు అతి దగ్గరలో ఉంటుంది. దక్షిణాభిముఖంగా (ఉత్తరం నుంచి క్షితిజ సమాంతరం) వస్తున్న వ్యక్తి కుడివైపు పడమర, నీడ పడమర వైపున ఉందంటే అప్పుడు ఉదయకాలం.

2. పడమర వైపు నడుస్తున్న వ్యక్తి 225డిగ్రీలు సవ్యదిశలో తిరిగితే తనకెదురుగానున్న దిక్కు ఏది?

జ. సవ్య దిశ అంటే గడియారపు ముల్లు దిశ. కుడివైపునకు తిరుగుట సవ్యదిశ. పడమర నుండి 180డిగ్రీలు ఎటువైపు తిరిగినా తూర్పు దిశ వస్తుంది. తూర్పు నుండి 45డిగ్రీలు కుడి వైపునకు తిరిగితే ఆగ్నేయ మూల ఉంటుంది. (180 డిగ్రీలు+45డిగ్రీలు=225డిగ్రీలు)

3. సలీం దక్షిణాభిముఖంగా 20మీ. నడచి ఎడమ వైపు 45 డిగ్రీలు తిరిగి 25మీ నడచి 45డిగ్రీలు ఎడమకు తిరిగి నిలబడిన అతడు ఏ దిక్కును చూస్తున్నట్లు? బయలుదేరిన ప్రదేశం నుండి ఎంత దూరంలోనున్నాడు.

జ. దక్షిణం నుంచి 45డిగ్రీలు ఎడమకు తిరిగితే ఎదురుగా ఆగ్నేయమూల. ఆగ్నేయమూల నుండి 45డిగ్రీల ఎడమకు తిరిగితే తూర్పుదిశ.

4. α, β, γ, θలు నలుగురు వృత్తాకారంలో ఒక్కొక్కరు ఒక్కో దిక్కుకు అదే క్రమంలో అభిముఖంగా నిలబడి ఉన్నారు. Φ, π, S, Eలు నలుగురు ఒక్కొక్కరు ఒక్కో మూలకు అదే క్రమంలో నిలబడి ఉన్నారు. α తూర్పుకు అభిముఖంగా, Φ ఆగ్నేయమూలకు అభిముఖంగా నిలబడి ఉన్నట్లయితే, β 315డిగ్రీలు అపసవ్య దిశలో తిరిగితే అతడు చూస్తున్న దిక్కులో నిలబడి ఉన్న ఇంకో వ్యక్తి ఎవరు?

5. వరుస క్రమంలో Aకి ఎడమ B, B నుండి కుడికి నాలుగవ స్థానంలో C, Cకి కుడి ఎడమలో D మరియు E ఉంటే మధ్య స్థానంలో నున్నదెవరు?

జ. Aకి ఎడమ వైపున B ఉంటే BA.
B నుంచి కుడికి నాలుగవ స్థానంలో C అంటే BCD, 2,3,4(C).
C కుడి, ఎడమలలో D మరియు E అంటే E,C,D

వరుస క్రమము: B, A, E, C, D, మధ్యస్థానంలో నున్నది E.

Directions

There are Four main directions - East, West, North and South as shown below:

There are Four cardinal directions - North-East (N-E), North-West (N-W), South-East (S-E), and South-West (S-W) as shown below:

Generally, questions in directions would be framed on the movement of a person in various directions. Sometimes the movement can also be a Left Turn or a Right Turn.

Shortest Distance:
A shortest distance is always the diagonal distance. For a square the diagonal(d) distance is √2a

For a rectangle, the shortest distance d (diagonal) is given by Pythagoras Theorem:
d=l+b

Shadows

At the time of sunrise if a man stands facing the east, his shadow will be towards west.
At the time of sunset the shadow of an object is always in the east.
If a man stands facing the North, at the time of sunrise his shadow will be towards his left and at the time of sunset it will be towards his right.
At 12:00 noon, the rays of the sun are vertically downward hence there will be no shadow.

So, it can be concluded that whenever the shadow is described Infront or Behind, the person should be facing/walking in East or West. In the same way, if the shadow is described Left Hand Side or Right Hand Side, the person is facing/ walking in South or North.

INFRONT/BEHIND→EAST/WEST
LHS/RHS→ NORTH/SOUTH

Note: Never bother whose shadow it is, always concentrate on whom the shadow is described and draw the conclusion.
Example1:
Madhu started from his house goes 5 km in the East, and then he turns to his left and goes 4 km. Finally he turns to his left and goes 5 km. Now how far is he from his house and in what direction?
Solution:

From third position it is clear he is 4 km from his house and is in North direction.

Example 2:
Suman started from his house, goes 4 km in the East, then he turns to his right and goes 3 km. What minimum distance will be covered by him to come back to his house?
Solution:

Example 3:
One morning after sunrise Deekshitha, while going to school met Advitha at a crossing. Advitha's shadow was exactly to the right of Deekshitha. If they were face to face, which direction was Deekshitha facing?
Solution: In the morning sunrises in the east.

So in morning the shadow falls towards the west.
Now Advitha's shadow falls to the right of the Deekshitha. Hence Deekshitha is facing South.
